The British Computer Society (BCS) is the only Chartered Professional Institution for Information Technology (IT). With members in over 100 countries around the world, the BCS is the leading professional and learned Society in the field of computers and information systems1. To become a BCS Professional member (MBCS), you’ll need to be working or teaching in computing and tech or have relevant qualifications. Work experience includes being professionally engaged in any aspect of building, maintaining, managing, or operating IT, or the teaching/training of these activities.

Relevant qualifications include UK Higher Education Qualifications, BCS Accredited and other degrees in IT-relevant subjects, honours degrees (e.g., BSc Hons, MEng Hons), ordinary degrees (e.g., BSc, BA), masters (e.g., MSc), doctorates (PhD), diplomas of higher education, foundation degrees (e.g., HNC/HND), and higher education qualifications not gained in the United Kingdom (considered individually). BCS Higher Education Qualifications include the Professional Graduate Diploma in IT, Diploma in IT, and Certificate in IT. Additionally, BCS Professional Certifications such as foundation certificates, practitioner/intermediate certificates, and higher-level certificates are relevant for becoming a BCS Professional member (MBCS)2.
