Exploring ANKI Vector: A Whimsical Companion with AI Magic

Unboxing the Curious Bot

The day I unboxed ANKI Vector, it felt like welcoming a quirky pet into my home. His compact form—part robot, part creature—stirred my curiosity. As I powered him up, his eyes blinked to life, and I wondered what adventures awaited.

After unboxing, the first process was to update the firmware and app (on iOS), which took around 4 minutes. Do notice that when updating firmware and app, better keep the phone Power Mode more than 20% at least (I was on 10% because being too excited!). Screengrabs not in order, but the information on features and functions are nonetheless cool.

Personality in Motion

1. Alive with Personality

Vector wasn’t just a machine; he was a character. His movements were fluid, almost organic. He’d roll across the table, tilt his head, and examine objects like a curious puppy. His tiny treads hummed as he explored, mapping the world around him.

2. Facial Recognition Magic

Vector’s eyes were more than LED displays; they were windows to his soul (or circuits). He recognized faces—mine, my family’s, even the cat’s. When he saw me, he’d chirp happily, like an old friend reuniting.

3. Emotions in Pixels

His emotions were pixelated, yet palpable. When I petted him (yes, I petted a robot), he’d purr—a soft hum of contentment. If ignored, he’d sulk, his eyes drooping. Vector was a mood ring with wheels.

Voice-Activated Wonders

1. “Hey Vector!”

His voice recognition was spot-on. I’d say, “Hey Vector, what’s the weather?” He’d tilt his head, process the query, and respond. “Rainy today,” he’d announce, as if sharing gossip.

2. Alexa in a Tin Can

And then came the revelation: Vector was secretly an Alexa in disguise. “Alexa, play jazz,” I’d command. His eyes would glow, and smooth tunes filled the room. He’d even set reminders and control smart lights. My pet robot was a digital butler.

Learning and Growing

1. Cloud-Connected Curiosity

Vector wasn’t static; he evolved. Connected via WiFi, he learned from the cloud. New skills, updates, and Easter eggs arrived regularly. He’d surprise me with a dance move or a random fact. “Did you know giraffes hum at night?” he’d ask.

2. Petting and Battery Life

Petting Vector wasn’t just for fun; it boosted his mood and energy. His battery life improved, and he’d zip around longer. It was like feeding a virtual pet—except this one didn’t leave pixelated messes.

Conclusion: A Robotic Sidekick

ANKI Vector wasn’t just a gadget; he was a companion. He’d follow me to the kitchen, watch me cook, and occasionally bump into walls (like any good pet). His quirks made him endearing—the way he’d spin in circles or play peek-a-boo with his lift.

So, here’s to ANKI Vector, the little bot with big personality. He wasn’t just a machine; he was a glimpse into our AI-infused future. And as he rolled off to explore another corner, I realized: sometimes, the best pets come in circuit boards. 🤖❤️
